Laser Eye Measurement

Extremely Accurate Laser Interference Biometry Improves Cataract Surgery Outcomes

November 18, 2004 - Indianapolis, Indiana -

.

Dr. Brazus is pleased to announce that he is now using the Zeiss IOL Master for his preoperative cataract surgery measurements.

"The improved accuracy over the ultrasound machine we were using has made a big difference in our ability to predict refractive outcomes, " said Dr. Brazus. "It's also much faster and easier for the patient."

The IOL Master uses laser light to measure the axial length along the visual axis without touching the eye at all. It also performs other measurements including corneal curvature. All of these measurements are used in computations to calculate the appropriate power for the lens implant that replaces the natural lens in cataract surgery. Because the measuements are more accurate, and the formulas continue to improve, more and more patients are able to see well at distance without glasses.

"Cataract surgery is truly becoming a refractive procedure, " concluded Dr. Brazus.
